SALWACO MD Holds First General Meeting with Staff
The newly appointed and first-ever female Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi has held her first General Staff Meeting, during which she shared her vision and strategic direction for the institution.
Following brief introductions from staff members, the Deputy Managing Director, Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey commended the organization for a smooth and peaceful leadership transition. He noted that the tenure of the former Managing Director, Ing. George Lamin Vandi had officially come to an end, including his own period as Acting MD. He therefore introduced Ing. Jabbi as the substantive Managing Director, encouraging staff to believe in her leadership and give her their fullest support. “Change is a necessary phenomenon therefore no one should resist” he emphasized.
In her address, Ing. Jabbi outlined her vision to transform SALWACO into a functional and financially viable institution. She emphasized that performance must be recognized, while non-performance will carry consequences. “We must embrace it, own it, and do it,” she urged staff.
The Managing Director further stressed the importance of professionalism and effective communication across all levels of the company. She called for the establishment of clear operational systems and the timely ownership of decisions. She cautioned against unnecessary gossip, encouraging staff instead to raise institutional concerns constructively with solutions.
Speaking on her first 100 days in office, Ing. Jabbi stated, “I am not here to destroy, but to build on the good foundation laid by my predecessor, ” she said.
She announced plans for an extensive organizational assessment over the next five weeks, to be conducted by departments with concrete recommendations. These recommendations will inform a strategic direction that will be translated into a Strategic Development Plan.
“This plan,” she continued, “will drive our activities, enhance performance, and move us closer to realizing our vision of transforming SALWACO into a functional and financially viable institution.”
Ing. Jabbi also highlighted the need for corporate rebranding as part of the company’s new strategic outlook, reaffirming SALWACO’s commitment to supporting the government’s national development agenda.
Following her remarks, all directors present at the meeting expressed their commitment to supporting her leadership and vision.
